RF800LW Self-cleaning Eel Screen & Intake Strainer
From £9,955.00 GBP
The RF800LWs are extremely tough stainless steel self-cleaning basket filters that protect pumps and other connected equipment from blocking and blinding when pumping dirty water. When fitted with 2 mm mesh they are ideal EA Eel regulation compliant Eel screens.
The RF800LW self-cleaning Eel Screening intake strainers provide industrial strength, low maintenance filtration for surface mounted pumps. They are coarse screened filters fitted with 1 mm - 6 mm stainless steel mesh screens.
Our award-winning self-cleaning mechanism in the filters provides a continuous backwash keeping the filter mesh free of weed, debris and other suspended solids, and their low intake velocity protects elvers, and other aquatic wildlife.
The RF800LWs can handle 277 m3 to 1085 m3 per hour.
542 cubic metres per hour maximum flow @ 0.1 metres / sec
Capital, installation and maintenance costs reduced
All Stainless Steel construction
Differential pressure switch for protection
Option for marine grade steel.
RF800LW Self-cleaning Eel Screen
Description
RF800LW Self-cleaning Eel Screen & Intake Strainer
RF800LW Self-cleaning Eel Screen Intake Strainers are designed for use on the suction hose of surface mounted pumps. They can also be used as gravity fed intakes as long as a pump is used to supply the backwash. Most new and renewed abstraction licences require measures to be put in place for the Protection of European Eels. Rotorflush RF800LW Self-cleaning Eel Screens have been specifically designed to meet this requirement.
The RF800LW Self-cleaning Eel Screen Intake Strainers are the highest capacity self-cleaning strainers Rotorflush offer. They can deliver a maximum of 217 m3/ hour – 1085 m3 / hour through tensioned woven Stainless Steel mesh. The maximum flow rates for RF800LW screens for elvers and glass eel protection range from 108 m3 / hour – 542 m3. This reduction is so that the intake velocity of the water does not exceed 0.1 metres a second.
The RF800LW range of Eel screens can be fitted with 316 grade Stainless Steel filter mesh, mesh aperture sizes can be from 1 mm to 6 mm. The maximum open area these screens offer is 60% when fitted with 2 mm aperture woven steel mesh (US 10 Mesh). The mesh is under tension and forms the body of the screen, maximising the mesh area.
The self-cleaning mechanism in our filters and strainers uses a proportion of your pump’s output to supply a feed to an internal backwashing rotor. Rotorflush self-cleaning eel screens are powered by taking a ‘T’ off the already filtered pump output to supply the Rotorflush internal rotors. The cleaning rotors push away anything that might cause the mesh to block with a continuous backwash.
Alternatively, the mesh can be kept clear by using a small backwash pump to drive the cleaning rotors. This allows the self-cleaning Eel Screens to be gravity fed, as is the case with many raw water intakes from rivers.
Each RF800LW screen is fitted with a differential pressure switch to monitor the pressure inside and outside the screen, and to switch off the main pump if the pressure difference is too great. The switch protects the screen mesh from damage in the unlikely event of a sudden screen blockage. Having one correctly installed is a condition of our product guarantee.
Rotorflush filters and strainers are all fitted with our patented self-cleaning technology, delivering an efficient backwash to keep their filter mesh clear and to protect aquatic life.

**Maximum flow rates are those for screens fitted with 60% open area 2 mm (US 10) mesh
**Approach velocity recommended for compliance with Regulations for the Protection of European Eels.
Note, EPA Rule 316(b) for final cooling water intakes recommends an intake velocity of not greater than 0.5 ft per second (0.15 metres a second). For this intake velocity, add half as much again to the Eel Regulations Max Flow rate in the table above.
