Frequently Asked Questions

How does it Work?
The filter fits onto your pump instaed of the pre-filter supplied with the pump. The filter consists of a nylon filter mesh with 0.25mm holes. An adaptor is provided that takes a small proportion of the output of the pump and directs it back to a cleaning rotor within the filter cage that continually backwashes the filter screen, removing anything that might block the filter screen.
How often does it need cleaning?
In most conditions we recommend that the filter cage and rotor are cleaned every 2 months.

Is it easy to fit?
Yes, no tools are required and can be fitted to most pumps in a few minutes.

Is it safe for small fish and tadpoles etc.?
Yes, the holes in the filter mesh are very small only 0.25mm, so except for very small fry they cannot be harmed.

How much will it reduce the output of my pump?
The filter uses a proportion of the output of the pump to power the cleaning rotor. With a fountain only, there will be no noticeable differnce to the fountain height. With a waterfall or a waterfall and fountain there could be up to a 25% reduction in output, depending on how dirty the pond is. There is an adjuster to regulate the amount of water returned to the cleaning rotor, the dirtier the pond the more water that is required to be diverted to the cleaning rotor.

Can I use it with an out of pond filter?
Yes, the filter will allow all particles less than 0.25mm through to the out of pond filter. The larger particles will be left in the pond. Out of pond filters will work better and need less maintenance if the large particles are removed by the pre-filter.
If you wish to catch the larger particles the the ROTORFLUSH GUNGE TRAP should be fitted.

Can I use it with a UV light?
Yes the filter will allow algae cells (that cause green water) through the filter mesh to your UV light source. Algae cells are approximately 50 times smaller than the holes in the filter mesh.

Does it work with Blanketweed?
Yes and No. Long strands of blanketweed will wrap around the filter and block it. If the blanketweed is in short strands, not more than 20mm long then the filter will cope. The use of a blanketweed killer will help as this causes the blanketweed to die and break up into smaller strands that will not block the filter.

Can it be used in the Winter?
Yes. The Rotorflush is suitable for water temperatures between 2 degrees to 30 degrees

How long will it last?
The Rotorflush filter is guarranteed for 1 year, however it is made of high grade plastic that is expected to last many years.
